Did TuscALERT Change?
Yes and No. The company behind the scenes changed for Tuscaloosa County, but the new platform will still offer the same great service, if not better.

What is TuscALERT?
This service allows you to opt-in to receive notifications via phone calls, text messaging, e-mail and more based on locations you care about. You can choose what types of non-emergency and weather notifications that may affect your home, workplace, children's schools, and more.

When will it be used?
This system will be used to notify you about imminent threats to health and safety as well as informational notifications that affect your locations or work environments. Administrators will send notifications regarding severe weather, flooding, gas leaks, police activity and more. When you receive these notifications will be based on your location or by the subscription categories you registered.

Will I get all the alert types I choose immediately?
No, the TuscALERT system opened up March 28, 2017 for public registration. Weather alerts are automated and available immediately after signup. This is an entirely new system serving multiple jurisdictions so some alert types will become available over time as we grow into the system. You can go ahead and sign up for the future alert categories now as you register.

Will I still get emergency notifications if I don't sign up?
TuscALERT will work best if you create a profile and specify how you wish to be reached and specify at least one address. However, in extreme public safety or disaster events, in the near future special notifications may be made to your cell phone using the the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system. This can occur even if you have not opted into the system and are just driving through an affected area. This technology is integrated in most modern cellular phones and major cellular carriers. You may have already seen one of these WEA alerts on your phone as an AMBER alert in the past. Use cases for this messaging method are restricted and WEA alert messages have very limited in message lengths. More complete information can be sent using other notification modes available to you when you create a profile in this portal.

What if my phone number or email address changes?
The system is only as good as the information you provide. If your contact information changes, you can always visit your profile and update your information.

The system won't accept my phone number!
All phone numbers must be valid. When you enter a phone number, use only numbers. Parentheses and dashes will appear automatically. It is possible to enter too many numbers; please check to make sure your number is entered correctly.

My username is not working, did someone already create my profile?
Your username is now your email address in the new system, which makes it unique across the nationwide Rave platform. Your username from the old system is no longer valid.
If you have not logged into the new system since June 19, 2026, you will need to create a new TuscAlert account. The new platform offers many additional features and notification options that were not available previously.

Will my contact information be shared with others?
No. The information that you provide will be used for TuscALERT notification purposes only. TuscALERT will not give or sell your contact or location information to a vendor or other organization. The purpose of the system is solely for local jurisdiction to provide you with timely and useful information.

My NOAA weather radio went off, why didn't I get a TuscALERT message?
NOAA weather radios will go off if any National Weather Service issued polygon includes any part of Tuscaloosa County. You will only receive a TuscALERT message if your provided location is inside of an issued polygon - take action. When your NOAA weather radio goes off, listen to the message or seek additional information to find out if your location is inside the issued polygon.

Why am I getting phone calls in the middle of the night? Who issues those alerts?
The National Weather Service issues all weather products. The TuscALERT system just relays that message out to the public. Sometimes, the National Weather Service protocol makes them issue products several hours ahead of a threat - which means the message gets sent out in the early morning. To avoid getting TuscALERT messages at certain hours, enable the  The only product that will not be able to opt out of a voice call is a Tornado Warning, so you'll always know when you need to take action. You can also go in and edit your notification settings and change the alerts you would like to receive.
