Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday

The Alabama Department of Revenue will be holding its sixth annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday in conjunction with Alabama Severe Weather Preparedness Week. The sales tax holiday will give shoppers the ability to purchase pre-identified preparedness items from 12:01 AM on Friday, February 24, until midnight on Sunday, February 26, 2017 free of state sales tax. Local sales taxes may still apply. The cities of Tuscaloosa and Northport, as well as Tuscaloosa County, will be participating in the tax-free holiday. 

Items exempt from sales tax during the holiday include:

  • tarps, plastic sheeting, and drop cloths

  • duct tape

  • weather radios

  • batteries

  • smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
